Scholarships, Discounts, and Private Sources of Financial Aid

At Cardinal Gibbons, we are committed to doing what we can to make quality Catholic education affordable to as many students as possible. Several programs are available to help us and you achieve that goal. A large percentage of our student body benefit from at least one of them. Those programs (some of which are mutually exclusive, and all of which are reviewed and renewable from year to year) include the following:

Principal’s Leadership Awards: Cardinal Gibbons wants students who want to be involved in, and lead, our extracurricular programs. We strongly believe that giving back to your school by participation in these programs is crucial to developing well-rounded young men. So, the Cardinal Gibbons School Board recently authorized the Principal, at his discretion, to offer awards of at least $500, to be applied to tuition, to those applicants who are willing to be leaders in our school by participation in our arts, theatre, band, athletic, and other programs. Qualification for these awards requires completing an application (including a brief essay), an interview before a decision will be made, and maintaining satisfactory academic performance. Those applications will be provided on request.

Alumni Grants: An existing program at Cardinal Gibbons is a tuition discount for sons and grandsons of alumni. Starting in the 2009-2010 school year, that discount will be $1,000 per student.

St. Agnes Hospital Scholarship Program: On January 6, 2009, The Saint Agnes Foundation announced a scholarship program for the sons of Saint Agnes Hospital employees who will attend Cardinal Gibbons. This is a new program for new students entering our school during the 2009-10 school year, and is one we hope and expect to continue for years to come. This is part of our ongoing efforts to grow our relationship with our good neighbors at St. Agnes, which also will include its involvement in our academic programs in the near future. Cardinal Gibbons is offering $1,500 scholarships to sons of St. Agnes employees, funded equally by Cardinal Gibbons and The St. Agnes Foundation, along with additional enrollment development support from The Knott Foundation.

Cardinal Gibbons Academic Scholarships: Eligibility for this program exists for those students who scored in the 90th percentile or higher on the Archdiocesan high school entrance tests. In addition, candidates for these scholarships are invited for an interview and must show excellent academic performance at their grade school. Decisions about these scholarships are communicated after the interview process is done. Cardinal Gibbons also will consider awards to students who demonstrate superior academic performance, but who were unable to sit for the test.

Cardinal Gibbons School Academic Tournament Scholarships: Each year, Cardinal Gibbons sponsors an academic tournament, at which hundreds of middle school students from dozens of local schools participate. Winning team members are offered scholarships to be applied to tuition. The next tournament is set for February ___, 2009. Check with your school to find out whether you will be sending a team. Although our school is packed with students, family and friends on tournament day, we will do what we can to accommodate your school if it is not already registered.

Archdiocesan Employee Grants: Cardinal Gibbons also offers tuition reductions to sons of employees of the Archdiocese of Baltimore and schools affiliated with the Archdiocese. Further information about this can be obtained from our Admissions Office.

Partners In Excellence Grants: Cardinal Gibbons participates in the Partners In Excellence program, which provides need-based financial aid to help with tuition. To learn more about this program, visit http://www.pieschools.org. Deadlines exist for applications to the program, so please look into this quickly if this is of interest to you.
