THE SCHOOL
The Cardinal Gibbons School is a college preparatory archdiocesan school for young men, grades 6-12 (a three-year middle school and a four year high-school). The school opened in 1962 providing a core curriculum in the liberal arts in preparation for college or other post-secondary education. The thirty-three acre campus is located in southwest Baltimore City.
FACULTY
The Professional staff is composed of 51 faculty members; 1 priest, 2 religious, and 48 laypersons.
ADMISSION
A student is selected for admission based on achieved grades, standardized test scores, his desire to attend the school, comments and/or letters of recommendation, and an interview, if needed.
ENROLLMENT
There are 351 students enrolled in grades 6-12. The breakdown per grade is as follows: 68 Seniors, 72 Juniors, 84 Sophomores, 77 Freshmen, 23 eighth graders, 19 seventh graders, 8 sixth graders.

SCHEDULE
The school operates on a six- day rotating cycle. A regular class day consists 11 periods per day built to accommodate 10 periods of course instruction, a Communications Period, and a lunch period. The school day begins at 8:25 A.M. and ends at 2:45 P.M.
GRADING
Cardinal Gibbons School operates on a two-semester system using the following numerical grades: 93-100=A, 85-92=B, 77-84=C, 70-76=D, 69 and below =F. Class Rank is weighted and determined by total number of accumulated Quality Points assigned to regular, honors and AP courses. Grade-Point Average is not weighted and is assessed by calculating the student’s cumulative average and converting it to the scale below. Only grades earned at Cardinal Gibbons School are used to compute the GPA. Summer School review credit grades are not substituted for grades of "F".

ACADEMIC HONORS
At the end of each quarter, public recognition is given to the student who earns academic honors. Such recognition is intended to honor the student who has demonstrated outstanding achievement and to encourage others to continue their efforts and to strive for this goal. A student meets the requirements for academic honors as follows:
Principal’s List-all grades of 93 or above
First honors-average of 89 (no grade below 85)
Second Honors-average of 85 or above(no grade below 81)

A student must be enrolled in seven courses each semester, but he may elect to include an extra course in his annual program.
Each middle school student is required to complete a minimum of 10 hours of community service. Each high school student is required to complete a minimum of 15 hours of community service each year. All students in grades 6-10 participate in a one-day annual retreat. All juniors and seniors are required to attend a two-day or three-day overnight retreat.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT/HONORS PROGRAMS
Admission into the Honors Program and/or AP Program is based on student desire, academic achievement and teacher recommendation.

Students in grades 11 and 12 are strongly encouraged to take the SAT and/or the ACT at least once as a junior and once as a senior.
ATHLETICS AND ACTIVITIES
Cardinal Gibbons offers a wide program of interscholastic sports which includes, Cross Country, Soccer, Football, Indoor/Outdoor Track, Basketball, Baseball, Golf and Lacrosse.
Many clubs, committees, and programs exist at Cardinal Gibbons School in order to develop the whole person and meet the interest and talents of the student body. Some examples are Battlefield Recon, Cricket Club, Faith & Service, High Adventure, H.O.P.E., International Thespian Society, It's Academic, Lasallian Youth, National Honor Society, Rosary-Pro Life, SALT(Serving and Leading with Teens).
